Our School Schedule

Many people want to know how we spend our weeks during the school year. It may sound over loaded to some or underloaded but it works for our family and we prayerfully consider each thing we add or take away.

Monday- Co-op at the Light house church. This is from 8:00 to 2:00. This is a very fun program for us this year and we are loving it so far. The girls each have 5 classes that are an hour long and they also enjoy lunch time.

Dana's Classes
1st Period-Early American History
2nd Period-Exploritorium Science
3rd Period-Indoor/outdoor games(PE)
Lunch
4th Period-5 in a Row(LOVE this class, it is a literature class where each class the teacher reads a book and they do vocabulary, art,or games correlating to the book read. One day they read a book based in the 18th century and then learned to play games that the children back then did. Dana came home teaching us all to play marbles! Today they ate gingerbread cookies that went along with their lesson;)
5th Period-Hand sewing(Dana's favorite)

Ava's Classes
1st Period-Art(she learns of different artists and then they mimmick their art style it is pretty cute)
2nd Period-Beginning Reading/Phonics Class
3rd Period-Math games
Lunch
4th Period-Outdoor/indoor games
5th Period- Relax and snack. Ava says this is the best class ever because you get to snack...AND relax. Don't we all love to do that haha.

So that is our MONDAY! PHEW!

Tuesday
School from 8:30 to 12:30
YMCA Co-Op 1:00 to 3:00
That is twice a week and the first hour is gym class. They begin with stretching, running the track and then begin learning the sport of the month. The second hour is swim class. Our kids are not lacking in the PE program with what the YMCA has to offer! I am so thankful for this! I have had quite a few concerned mothers say "do you feel that your children are getting the best education?" With a slightly frowny look on their face. I without a doubt tell them my children are getting THE best education for them. Not everyone is called to homeschool, to go to public school, or go to private school. Finding what works for you and being confident you are where you should be gives you the boost to keep on going!

Wednesday
School from 8:30 to 2:00
Dana has harp lessons at 3:00

Thursday
School from 8:30 to 12:30
YMCA Co-Op 1:00 to 3:00

Friday
School from 8:30 to 2:00

Our school days consist of different things but we use the abeka program for now and at Dana's age she usually is doing school for at least 4 hours and then we read or do craft or just take off for the day to go visit daddy:)
Ava is doing Kindergarden and her actual papers take only an hour max. She does phonics games with me and sometimes we just color and do play doh and other fun stuff. We also sit and read A LOT so it is quiet for Dana. I usually give Dana her lessons in the morning that I must assist in such as Language and Math. The rest like spelling, reading, science lessons, writing are mostly on her own with lots of checking in with me. So when we stay organized and in schedule things run much smoother. We also do not hesitate to drop the school work and go for nature walks or hit up the library. Plus our girls love to cook, so math and reading are never neglected:)
